Jude Fokwang

Jude Fokwang teaches anthropology at Lakehead University – Orillia. He received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and his MA from the University of Pretoria. Fokwang has been a visiting lecturer at Rhodes University (2006) and held the position of senior lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Cape Town (2008-2009). He is the author of Mediating Legitimacy (2009) a comparative study on traditional leadership in Africa based on fieldwork carried out in Venda, South Africa and Bali Nyonga in the Cameroon Grassfields. He has published widely on youth identities, student politics, popular culture and citizenship in Africa. He is currently writing an ethnography on “associational life” based on fieldwork in Bamenda, Cameroon.
