2010 Objectives and Overview of Results

1. Books Published
63 titles published in 2010; 158 total since 2007

2. Book Sales and Distribution
Over 150 titles, 15% by women lead authors, were sold through African Books Collective and Michigan State University Press. And 20% of total sales were of books by women lead authors. Three of the four bestsellers (sales of over 90 copies per book) were by women lead authors. The 22 bestsellers – 28.5% by women lead authors – sold over 40 copies.

3. Research Activities
Mobile Africa Revisited research programme continued and produced films and publications

4. Cooperation and Collaboration
African Studies Centre at the University of Leiden, Netherlands; Cape Town book fair; Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA); Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC); Caine prize for African writing; a funding proposal for 30 000 Euros will be submitted to the Prince Claus Fund in early 2011.

5. Communications
Visits to Langaa web site increased moderately, to 238 per day; facebook and twitter pages for Langaa were launched

6. Staffing
Continued reliance on volunteers, with ongoing ambition to hire an outreach coordinator

7. Finances
Modest cash resources from remittances, in-kind contributions
